Mill Creek, OK

Overview

U.S. Silica's Mill Creek plant mines from the "Oil Creek" formation, producing a wide range of silica products - from fine-grain silica "flour" to whole grain sand that is high in natural crystalline silica. This high-purity silica is a perfect multi-purpose sand for use in all types of glass, foundry molds, well stimulation, and building products.

History

Sand mining has been a part of south central Oklahoma's economy for nearly 100 years. Operations in Mill Creek were originally established by Hazel-Atlas Glass Company during the 1940s. In 1947, the operation in Mill Creek was purchased by the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation, which later merged with Ottawa Silica to form today's U.S. Silica Company.

Community

The workforce at the Mill Creek plant includes multiple generations of local families. Many of the Mill Creek employees volunteer their free time to fire and rescue, youth activities, and participate in local commissions and boards. The Mill Creek plant has also made its mission to minimize its impact on the environment by following the Department of Environmental Quality's regulations, recycling process water, and creating wildlife habitats through the reclamation process.
