Utica, IL

Our newest mine and processing plant, located near Utica, IL, uses natural gas and electricity to produce whole grain silica products through surface mining. The reserves are part of the St. Peter Sandstone Formation which was formed in the Illinois Basin some 450 million years ago. The facility is located approximately 80 miles southwest of Chicago and is easily accessible by major highways including U.S. Interstate 80.

The Utica facility is approximately 10 miles from our flagship mine and plant in Ottawa, IL. The mine and processing plant produces a product mix of 20/40,30/50, 40/70 and 100 mesh material. Finished goods reach customers via the BNSF or UP railroads. This is achievable by shipping the sand to a transload located at our resin-coated sand facility in Rochelle, IL. Once received, it is loaded into railcars and shipped via unit trains or manifested rail loads.

Our employees are actively involved in many educational and philanthropic endeavors in the LaSalle County area, including Habitat for Humanity in Streator, IL, park improvements and building decorations for the City of LaSalle, painting and restoration projects at I&M Canal, and helping local neighbors on various projects.
