Voca, TX

Overview

U.S. Silica's Voca facility produces Premium Hickory® Sand from the Hickory Sandstone Formation in Central Texas. Sand from this area has been used for decades in the oil and gas industry due to its close proximity to the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford shale formation. Sand from the Hickory formation is naturally more coarse than "northern white" deposits and can generally be delivered to the well-head at lower cost. For some shallower wells, particularly in the Permian, sand from the Hickory Formation will produce a superior ROI relative to northern white deposits.

History

The Voca mine is located in McCulloch County, Texas. While Voca is an unincorporated area, the nearby town of Brady is considered the "Heart of Texas" as the closest city to the geographical center of the state. The area has been settled since the 1870’s and is principally a farming and ranching community. Sand mining operations have played an important role in the region’s economy for decades. Brady is also known for hosting The World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off every Labor Day.

Community

U.S. Silica is proud to be part of Brady/McCulloch County and supports numerous community and charitable organizations. Our philanthropic contributions are focused on organizations that support youth and educational activities. Employees donate their time to build a better community by serving on boards of organizations, coaching youth sports teams and supporting the McCulloch County Rodeo and Livestock Show. Our Voca location was recognized as the 2012 Oustanding Large Business in McCulloch County.
