U.S. Silica Helps Ottawa YMCA Usher in a New Era

March 2, 2012

Signage donation makes local chapter one of the first in country to adopt new brand

(OTTAWA) – Ottawa’s YMCA is sporting a new look thanks to a donation from U.S. Silica.  Two recently installed signs on the building exterior now display the YMCA’s new logo, and bring the local chapter in line with the national organization’s efforts to rebrand the group for the future.

The $8,800 donation from U.S. Silica enabled the Ottawa YMCA to make the change in advance of the 5-year nationwide rollout.

“Without U.S. Silica’s help, this project would not have been possible,” said Rikki Nevins, executive director of the Ottawa YMCA. “The YMCA is an important part of the Ottawa community, and we are delighted that U.S. Silica is investing in the people that live here in this way.”

This is just one of many investments that U.S. Silica has made in recent years to the Ottawa and LaSalle County communities. In addition to creating nearly 50 new jobs at its facility in the last year, the company provided the necessary funds for Lincoln Elementary School to replace its playground equipment last year. U.S. Silica representatives also recently participated in Celebrity Reading Week at McKinley Elementary, where they read to students and engaged in classroom discussions.

“U.S. Silica has a long history of investing in the communities we call home,” said Jon Sheridan, plant manager at U.S. Silica’s Ottawa facility. “We have been in Ottawa for more than 100 years, and we are committed to doing our part to ensure the community’s quality of life.”

U.S. Silica is a leading industrial silica company in the country. The company mines and processes ground and unground silica sand for glass production and fiberglass applications; aluminum, steel and iron mold and core making; pool, residential, and municipal filtration; recreational sands; hydraulic fracturing sands for oil and gas well stimulation and ground silica for fillers in plastics, rubber, grout, mortar, paint and polishes and so much more. The company has 13 locations throughout the country and produces more than 200 unique products.
