Bryan Shinn, President and Chief Executive Officer
Bryan A. Shinn has served as our president since March 2011 and as our chief executive officer and a member of our board of directors since January 2012. Prior to assuming this position, Mr. Shinn was our senior vice president of sales and marketing from October 2009 to February 2011. Before joining us, Mr. Shinn was employed by the E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company from 1983 to September 2009, where he held a variety of key leadership roles in operations, sales, marketing and business management, including global business director and global sales director. Mr. Shinn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware. As a result of these and other professional experiences, Mr. Shinn possesses particular knowledge and experience in operations, sales, marketing, management and corporate strategy that strengthen the board's collective qualifications, skills and experience.
Don Merril, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Donald A. Merril joined the company in October 2012 as our vice president of finance and in 2016 was promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining our company Mr. Merril was the senior vice president and chief financial officer of Myers Industries (NYSE:MYE). Prior to that, he spent five years with NewellRubbermaid as chief financial officer of the Rubbermaid division and the Little Tikes division. Mr. Merril also had increasing accounting and finance roles of responsibility at the Scotts-Miracle Gro Company and Eaton Corporation. Mr. Merril earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
J.P. Blanchard, Senior Vice President and President, Industrial and Specialty Products
John P. Blanchard joined U.S. Silica in 2011 as vice president and general manager, industrial and specialties and in 2016 was promoted to senior vice president and president, industrial and specialty products. He brings significant experience, energy and leadership to help accelerate U.S. Silica’s growth trajectory. Mr. Blanchard possesses over 15 years’ experience in a variety of industries, including nonwovens, composites and pharmaceuticals. He has held increasingly senior roles in business management, sales, marketing and business development, and formerly served as global business director at Johns Manville. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
Brad Casper, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer
Bradford B. Casper joined the company as our vice president of strategic planning in May 2011 and in 2016 was promoted to executive vice president and chief commercial officer. Before joining us, Mr. Casper was at Bain & Company, Inc., where he held various positions from 2002 to May 2011 in the United States, Australia and Hong Kong, most recently serving as a principal from July 2010 to May 2011. Mr. Casper earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
David Murry, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
David D. Murry joined U.S. Silica in 2011 as vice president of talent management and chief human resources officer and in 2016 was promoted to senior vice president and chief human resources officer. Most recently, He was the director of human resources and talent management for Arkema, a diversified chemicals company. He has held positions of increasing leadership responsibility with Armstrong World Industries, Dell Computer Corporation, and Alcoa. Mr. Murry oversees U.S. Silica’s Human Resources function including talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, employee relations, labor relations and learning and organizational development. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science degree in management from Antioch University.
Billy Ray Smith, Senior Vice President and President, Oil & Gas Proppants
Billy Ray Smith joined the company as our vice president of Oil & Gas in March 2017 and was promoted to senior vice president and president, Oil & Gas Proppants in January, 2018. Before joining us, Mr. Smith held various positions of increasing responsibility with Halliburton, a global energy services company since 1995, including as North American Technology Director from October, 2015 to March, 2017. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University.
Mike Winkler, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Michael L. Winkler joined the company as our vice president of operations in June 2011 and in 2016 was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer. Before joining us, Mr. Winkler was vice president of operations for Campbell Soup Company from August 2007 to June 2011 and held various positions with Mars Inc. from 1996 to August 2007, including plant manager--Columbus Plant and director of industrial engineering. Mr. Winkler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin--Platteville and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Texas.
