Overview

Our surface mines in Mill Creek use natural gas and electricity to produce whole grain, ground and fine ground silica through hydraulic mining. The reserves are part of the Oil Creek Formation in south central Oklahoma. Since acquiring the facility, we renovated and upgraded its production capabilities to enable it to produce multiple products through various processing methods, including hydraulic sizing, fluid bed drying, grinding and air sizing.

These production techniques allow the Mill Creek facility to meet a wide variety of focused specifications on product composition for glass, foundry, fillers and extenders, building product and oil and gas proppant customers.

We acquired the Mill Creek facility in 1987 by merger with the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation, which had historically used the property to produce whole grain silica for customers in industrial and specialty products end markets.

The facility is located approximately 100 miles southeast of Oklahoma City and is accessible by major highways including U.S. Interstate 35.

Community

The workforce at the Mill Creek plant includes multiple generations of local families. Many of the Mill Creek employees volunteer their free time to fire and rescue, youth activities, and participate in local commissions and boards. The Mill Creek plant is part of the landscape of Johnston County and strives to minimize its impact on the environment. Nearly all of the water used in mining and processing is recycled, and the reclaimed quarries and surroundings have become rich wildlife habitats.
