Overview

In operation since 1988, Fernley mines, dries and sizes granular diatomaceous earth (DE) products through a rotary dryer and mill. The facility utilizes electricity and recycled oil to manufacture granular products used in absorbent products, soil amendments, fertilizer and pet litter.

This facility was acquired from Moltan corporation in 2013, and became part of U.S. Silica during the 2018 acquisition of EP Minerals. It has an annual capacity of approximately 50,000 tons and is located near Interstate 80, about 15 miles east of Fernley, Nevada.

Community

The facility is centrally located between Fernley, Fallon and Lovelock NV with employees living and participating in all three of these communities. The City Of Fernley is located just 30 minutes from the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area. Fernley has been primarily a ranching and agricultural community but is now one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. because of the number of the number of Fortune 500 company distribution centers located nearby.
