Overview

EP Naturals™ DEsect® is an insecticide produced from a special grade of fresh-water diatomaceous earth (DE) and is a highly effective insect control solution. DEsect is registered as a pesticide by the US EPA, and can be used in commercial farming, on crops areas. DEsect meets all US requirements for use in organic farms.

The most effective DE insecticide available today.

DEsect is produced from a very unique source of DE that has shown to be more effective than other leading DE insecticides on the market today for killing insects. Independent studies show that DEsect is an excellent insect control product. When insects come in contact with DEsect, it absorbs their protective wax coating and their bodies are damaged by the sharp edges of the particles. DEsect also absorbs the insect's body fluids and they eventually die by dehydration. There is no built-up immunity as there is with chemical insecticides. DEsect does not break down as chemicals do, and the more it is used, the more insects feel unwelcome in the area.

Product Use

DEsect is made from a special DE ore deposit which kills insects faster than competing brands of DE, according to testing by an independent entomology laboratory.

DEsect for Household Use

DEsect is the OMRI listed way to control roaches, silverfish, ants, fleas, crickets, and many other insects. It should be applied as a physical barrier that insects must crawl across to get it on them. Apply the dust liberally around cracks and crevices, under stoves and refrigerators, and in likely hiding places. Be sure to treat around sinks and drain pipes, and around windowsills, doors, and other places where pests may enter. To control fleas in rugs and carpets, apply a thin layer of DE all over the area. Rake the DE into the fibers and leave overnight. When cleaning, do not make a special effort to remove the dust in the rug. It will continue to kill live fleas, repel others.

DEsect helps control slugs, aphids, whiteflies, beetles, mites, leaf hoppers, and many other pests. It can be used on any fruits, vegetables, flowers, grains, and grass -- up to and including day of harvest.

DEsect for Lawns & Gardens

Organic gardeners and homeowners love DEsect.

For lawns, apply 8 to 16 oz. of DEsect dust per 1000 sq. ft. of the yard. Two or three applications per year should do the job. This can be done as dry dust or can be mixed with water and sprayed using suitable equipment.

For crops and gardens, DEsect meets the US requirements for organic farming. It can be applied as a dry powder or mixed with water at the rate of 2 oz. per quart (60 g per liter) and sprayed as a liquid. The goal is to get coverage over the entire plant, especially under the leaves.

DEsect for Pets & Livestock

DEsect is effective against fleas, mites, ticks, lice, and other pests for use on pets, poultry, and other livestock. It's the perfect insectide for farms and ranches and it's easy to use.

Dust the animals liberally and lightly work the material into the hair of the animal, or provide a box or loose bag of it for animals to roll in or rub against to dust themselves. Dust the ears of the animal with care. Dust the animal's bedding and areas where the animal sleeps, as well as cracks and crevices adjacent to them. This can be done manually or with a power dust blower. Repeat once a month or as necessary. Individual ticks observed on the animal should be dusted thoroughly. For confined animals infested with fleas and ticks, dust the entire area with DEsect.

Unique EPA certification for use on livestock and poultry. Most DE insecticide suppliers do not have EPA approval for livestock and poultry. DEsect is registered with the EPA for those specific applications.

DEsect for Crop Use

DEsect is produced from a very unique source of DE that has shown to be more effective than other leading DE insecticides on the market today for killing insects. Independent studies show that DEsect is an excellent insect control product. When insects come in contact with DEsect, it absorbs their protective wax coating and their bodies are damaged by the sharp edges of the particles. DEsect also absorbs the insect's body fluids and they eventually die by dehydration. There is no built-up immunity as there is with chemical insecticides. DEsect does not break down as chemicals do, and the more it is used, the more insects feel unwelcome in the area.

DEsect for Grain Storage

Organic farmers and commercial crop producers love the benefits of DEsect. DEsect can be used to control insects in stored grain and animal feed. It has no taste or smell, and it does not need to be removed or require any waiting time before processing and consumption. It can be used with feed grains, seed, stored grains, and other raw agricultural products including barley, buckwheat, corn, oats, rice, rye, sorghum, wheat, flax, peas, soybeans, peanuts, popcorn, cocoa beans, and any mixtures of these grains.

DEsect is effective for killing exposed insects such as Rice Weevils, Granary Weevils, Angoumois Grain Moths, Mediterranean Flour Moths, Indian Meal Moths, Red Flour Beetles, and Tribolium in empty bins, warehouses, boxcars, containers, ships, and silos.

Moisture content of grain should be regulated to less than 12% for effective insect control. DEsect can be applied at a rate of 1 to 7 pounds per ton and can be mixed throughout the entire grain mass, or used as a top and/or bottom dressing at the rate of 4 pounds per 1000 square feet over the grain bed. USDA directive 918.49 advises that grain properly identified as containing DEsect will not be downgraded solely based on diatomite content.

For empty grain storage areas, DEsect should be dusted lightly at an approximate rate of 1 pound per 1000 sq. ft. on all interior wall and floor surfaces of empty storage areas. Pay special attention to cracks and crevices.
